Terms of use

Global News Map (the website globalnewsmap.org and the iOS, macOS and Android apps) is run by Luma Tech Solutions. Questions: hello@lumatechsolutions.co.uk. By using the map you agree to these terms.

What it is

A news digest: reports from established news outlets are read by an AI model every hour and shown on a map, each with a link to the article it came from. It is not an intelligence product, a safety service or official advice. Don't rely on it for decisions about your safety or anyone else's; follow official travel advice and local authorities. Locations, figures and summaries can be incomplete, late or wrong, even after the checks described on How it works.

Alerts

Alerts in the apps are sent on a best-effort basis. They can arrive late or not at all, and the absence of an alert doesn't mean nothing has happened.

Other people's content

News articles, videos, forecasts, market odds and other data shown or linked on the map belong to their publishers and keep their own terms; they are credited where they appear. Links take you to sites we don't control, and we aren't responsible for them. Forecasts and odds from others are shown as information, not as advice or an invitation to bet.

Using the map

You may use the map for personal and non-commercial purposes and share links to it. Please don't scrape it, overload it with automated requests, or try to interfere with how it works. The source code is published under the MIT licence; that licence covers the code, not the data or other people's content.

Community chat rules

Chat is for people aged 13 or over. Use your own account, keep its password and recovery code private, and do not impersonate another person or moderator. User posts are public discussion, not checked reporting or official site advice. When discussing news, link your sources and distinguish facts, claims and opinion.

Do not post illegal material, threats, hateful abuse, harassment, sexual exploitation, graphic violence, another person's private information, scams, malicious links or spam. Do not use chat to facilitate violence or evade moderation. Messages are limited to 1,000 characters with a five-second posting cooldown; verified Discord administrators are exempt from that cooldown. There are no private messages or attachments.

You retain ownership of your posts and give us permission to store, display and moderate them to operate chat. History remains available to later visitors for up to 90 days. You can remove your own messages or delete your account; backup copies expire within 30 days. Other people's replies and screenshots are outside your control.

Use a message's Report action to flag rule-breaking or illegal content; give enough context for review. You can hide another user's messages from your own view. Administrators may remove messages or suspend accounts to enforce these rules. To appeal a decision or report an urgent concern, contact hello@lumatechsolutions.co.uk. Chat is not continuously monitored or an emergency service; contact the appropriate emergency services for immediate danger.

Liability

The map is provided free of charge and "as is", without any promise that it is accurate, complete or available. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from using it or relying on it. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud.

Changes

We may change the map or these terms at any time; the date below shows the latest version. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
